TerraLayer project was designed with the aim of improving irrigation efficiency by calculating the moisture and transpiration in the air, obtained with geospatial data. EVM had already collaborated with two proposals that included writing the requests for project funding and were already beneficiaries within the ‘Plan Avanza’ funding framework in 2009 and 2011. This phase is funded by the program Smart Agri-Food (SFA), an accelerator of the FI-WARE program, the Future Internet project of the European Union.
The main objective of this new project is to adapt TerraLayer to the FI-WARE platform –funded by the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Union– which seeks to provide a public architecture where applications can be deployed easily for service providers, enterprises and developers.
After the connection to FI-WARE, TerraLayer will expand the business scope of the platform, seeking to reach farmers, cooperatives and companies of the horticultural sector in European countries that are most in need to optimize their irrigation system.
